Village Ustye Kubinskoye

The village of Ustye was formed from Ustye proper, the village of Lakhmokur'e, and the settlement of Petrovka. The first mention of the village of Lakhmokur'e dates back to 1486. ​​The name possibly means "bay where bream are found." In the 17th century, the village belonged to the Spaso-Kamenny Monastery. Cadastre books from 1570 mention the Ustye marketplace. Documents from the 16th century mention the Petrovsky Pogost, and in the 18th century, the village had two names: "...the village of Ustye, also the Petrovskaya settlement, belongs to Count Vorontsov." By the end of the 19th century, all three settlements were considered one village, Ustye. The village's residents were engaged in lacemaking, shoemaking, pottery, carpentry, shipbuilding, hunting, and fishing. At the beginning of the 20th century, Ustye was home to five sawmills, a glass factory owned by the Nikulichev trading house, three oil mills and butter factories, a glue factory, a brick factory, and four sinkale factories. In 1918, the first labor cooperative in the Northern Territory, "Pervenets Severa," was opened. Legend has it that during the provincial reform of 1775, Ustye was considered a district town, but Ustye merchants opposed the move, and Kadnikov became the town. In 1913, Ustye was the center of the Ustye Volost (Ust'yanskaya Volost) of the Kadnikovsky District. In 1929, with the formation of the Ust-Kubinsky District, the village became the district center.

Attractions
A unique landmark of the Ust-Kubinsky District is the active Spaso-Kamenny Preobrazhensky Monastery, founded in 1260—the oldest stone monastery in the Russian North. A cultural heritage site of federal significance.
Ustye has long been famous for its artistic crafts: the Ustye horn, Zakushtsky pottery, lace, and Ustye glass. Nowadays, Ustye is home to crafts such as lace-making, various types of embroidery, wooden souvenir making, wood painting, toy making, beekeeping, and boat building.
Since 2001, the village of Ustye has hosted an annual Boat Festival, one of the most popular events in the Vologda region.

Food, Gastronomy
Traditional Baked Goods:
The rural bakery of the Vozrozhdenie Agricultural Production Cooperative produces bakery and confectionery products, with a range of over 80 types.
It produces three types of products under the "Real Vologda Product" trademark. The district's main traditional baked goods are potato rogulki (rolls filled with porridge), and fish cakes.
Ust'yanskaya ukha (fish soup) is also a favorite dish of both Ust'yan residents and visitors. You can learn the traditions of making Ust'yanskaya ukha at the "Boat Festival."
Guests and excursion participants are treated to a homemade lunch, including homemade vegetable pickles and jam, pancakes, mushrooms (salted saffron milk caps, milk mushrooms), and "kubariki" (sweet dumplings) with hot boiled potatoes.
Gastronomic souvenirs can be purchased at the Bogoslovo local produce store in Ust'yan.

The village of Ustye is located 75 kilometers from Vologda.
By car from Vologda, take the M-8 highway, then turn off for Sokol.
