Village Posolsk

Republic of Buryatia
since September 20, 2021, 43 points
The village stands on the very shore of Lake Baikal, with the water's edge in some places no more than 100 meters from its outermost houses. The other side of the village is backed by Posolsky Sor Bay and the Bolshaya Rechka, where Baikal's largest population of omul (Posolsky omul) enters to spawn. The village and Posolsky Monastery are considered to have been founded in 1653. More than 350 years ago, the tsarist ambassador, Yerofey Zabolotsky, was assassinated here with his son and seven Cossacks. The cape was named Posolsky, and the village subsequently received this name.

Sights
• On a hill, like a beacon, at the base of the village stands the Transfiguration Monastery, built in 1681 in memory of those distant events. The waterway from the Baikal region to Verkhneudinsk, Kyakhta, and the eastern countries ran through Posolsoy. Its convenient location and the availability of a well-protected shelter for mooring and repairing ships made the village of Posolskoye a vital political, business, and commercial center for many decades.
• The oldest historical and cultural monument of federal significance, the Posolsky Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior (founded in 1861), is located on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal. During a tour, tourists can admire the unique architecture of the church, characteristic only of Siberian churches, known as "Siberian Baroque," and visit the chapel and churches.

Fisherman's Day
The traditional holiday of the village of Posolskoye is "Fisherman's Day," which takes place on the second Sunday in July. This is the village's most important holiday, as Posolskoye has historically been considered a fishing village, with fishing being the main occupation of the locals.Local residents look forward to this holiday most of all, celebrating it right on the shore of Lake Baikal. Throughout the day, there's a festive concert, competitions in national sports, and contests, with local and visiting groups performing on stage. However, the highlight is saved for last: a culinary competition. All participants begin preparing a traditional dish, ukha. Each housewife has her own recipe.

Epiphany
Epiphany is one of the many winter holidays, no less important for the residents of the village of Posolskoye. Traditionally, on January 18th, an all-night vigil is held at the Transfiguration Monastery, ending with the blessing of the water, the main tradition of Epiphany. It is believed that at Epiphany, water acquires healing properties and retains them throughout the year. After the blessing of the water, all those present at the event walk in a procession to the font on the shore of Lake Baikal. First, the priest blesses the water in the font, and then those who wish immerse themselves in the water three times, crossing themselves and saying the words, "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit." On the shores of Lake Baikal, the Kabansky Fish Factory agricultural production cooperative organizes a fish market, and everyone can also buy hot pozy (fried meat pies), pirozhki (fried meat pies), belyashi (fried meat pies), and tea.

Among the main pies are fish and apple pie. The main events of the festival begin with a fishing competition in the Posolskoye pond.
