Village Cherevkovo

Arkhangelsk Oblast
since October 3, 2020, 43 points
A historic craft and trade center with a 500-year history, located 50 kilometers from the district center of Krasnoborsk. Arriving in Cherevkovo, you'll be immersed in the quiet charm of a small northern village, surrounded by its calm, unhurried life. This once prosperous trading village has preserved its historical appearance to this day: a complex of shops and barns, warehouses, and houses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's no wonder that in 2020, Cherevkovo joined the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Russia, becoming the seventh village in the Arkhangelsk Region to be included in the Association (https://krasaderevni.ru/news/1132/).

Sights
The surviving house and storehouse of the merchant peasant Pirogov, as well as the family homes of the Gusev merchant peasants, dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are of architectural interest in the village of Cherevkovo. Among the village's religious monuments, the partially preserved stone Trinity Church from the 18th century and the functioning wooden Church of Peter Cherevkovsky, built in the 17th-18th centuries, are still standing.
The famous Rakul painting originated in this land, not far from Cherevkovo. Cherevkovo was also a center of gold embroidery and pottery production. The residents of the local villages were renowned potters. The Ludonga River flows beyond the village outskirts, and on the riverbank near the road is a man-made natural monument—a cedar garden planted by the peasant Fyodor Stepanovich Mokeev in 1888.
Cherevkovo is a holy place. The parish priest, Priest Peter, served here. During the Time of Troubles, he defended the village from the Polish-Lithuanian invaders and was martyred by the Poles in 1613. Canonized as a saint of all Russia in 2000, July 22 is now the Memorial Day of Priest Peter Cherevkovsky.
