Porechye is an ancient, large village in the Yaroslavl region, the center of the Rostov commercial gardening industry, renowned throughout the country. It is located 17 kilometers from Rostov, on the Sara River, in the southern floodplain of Lake Nero.
The village has been known as Porechye-Lovetskoye since the 14th century as a princely hunting ground. In 1709, the entire Lake Nero, along with its inflowing and outflowing rivers, was transferred to the residents of the village of Ugodichi. This deprived the residents of Porechye of most of their income and forced them to turn to commercial gardening.
In 1719-1720, by decree of Peter the Great, villagers traveled to Holland to learn gardening. Porechye began to cultivate up to 87 species of medicinal and aromatic herbs.
The administration of the rural settlement of Porechye Rybnoye has established active outreach to citizens and philanthropists. Thus, Dmitry Alekseevich Sosfenov, a direct descendant of Nikolai Alekseevich Kozlov, the mayor of the village of Porechye-Rybnoye (a self-taught architect, according to legend), purchased eight ancient, ruined houses for restoration to develop tourism.

Sights
The village is home to one federal, several regional, and several dozen newly discovered architectural monuments: churches and stone peasant houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The most important architectural monument in Porechye-Rybnoye is the bell tower of the Church of St. Nikita the Martyr, built between 1799 and 1810. A federal monument, it is one of the tallest rural bell towers in Russia, at 82 meters.
The residents of Porechye-Rybnoye are hereditary gardeners. They not only cultivate vegetable crops but also grow seedlings of cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Currently, they grow flower seedlings in greenhouses on an almost industrial scale. There are approximately 200 private greenhouse farms.

Food, Gastronomy, and Terroirs
Porechye's specialties are related to gardening and fishing on the Sara River and Lake Nero.
You can also buy fresh, lightly salted and pickled cucumbers and other organic vegetables straight from the garden. Local fishermen always have freshly caught pike, bream, and pike perch from the Sara River and Lake Nero.
